Feeding Your Appetites by Stephen Arterburn

Fulfillment

- is a search to love and be loved, to have meaning and purpose, and to be satisfied with who we are.

Appetite

- any strong desire we have to fill a specific need, such as the craving for food, sex, power, pleasure, work, companionship, wisdom or even God.

- is something everyone experiencing on a daily basis in one form or another. It can also be our internal need to fill ourselves with any of the many facets of our lives is what drives us to search outside of our selves for that missing piece.

Our appetite motivate us to seek fulfillment, but they must be managed or they will lead us into a world of regret and tremendous emotional pain.

When an appetite intended to help us survive is managed incorrectly, it may become a trap holding us in a deadly grip. Until we give ourselves and our appetite completely over to God, we will remain trapped.
Every human being has an inborn desire to know God, but our personal and selfish wants get in the way. Our desire for knowledge of our Creator is taken hostage, and we find ourselves captured instead by appetites for food, feelings, or experiences.

Facing our fears, even if it meant experiencing pain.

We die trying. When an appetite becomes the driving force, enough is never enough.

How you fulfill your appetites need to be aligned with what God has ordained in His word.

You don't need to compare yourself to anyone else to determine whether what you are doing is right. You only need to seek God and compare your actions with His plan for your life. And just so you know, if you are seeking Him first, then your appetites will be fulfilled in ways that glorify God and benefit you and others.

The original experiences with whatever they desired could not be repented.

This journey won't be quick, and it won't be easy change requires perseverance even when our circumstances are painful and journey a long time.

The more you of it you have, the more likely you are to want even more.

Is not that we are a pleasure-seeking people, but that we are willing to settle for such pitiful pleasure.

We are designed for pleasure, but the pleasure that we are to seek the pleasure that will truly satisfy is finding pleasure in God.

Before salvation we don't struggle with sin we just give in to it.

Our lost of that primary communion with God made us lose control of our appetites.

God gave them to us but we sometimes choose to satisfy these appetites in a sinful way.

1 Timothy 6:7-12
"For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it."

An appetite is like a fire. Under control it helps a person survive, but out of control it destroys everything in it's path, including the person.

When satan reminds you of your past, just remind him of his future.
"The joy of genuine love is not receiving but giving, not being served but serving."
-Addicted to Love

False beliefs tied to identity and self-worth.

Do not despair, because we have a great hope.

God wants us to be fulfilled and satisfied. And we can be satisfied,is we faithfully commit to follow His leading.

Until we seek, find, and accept a relationship with God, we will long to fill that space and probably have our stirred by something else.

We have convinced ourselves that something is better than nothing no matter how bad that "something" is for us.

We know the right answer, but we do the wrong thing anyway.

Some choices look like the good and right thing to do but may not be what God is asking us to do.

It is so easy to keep looking for something that seems like a better way than the one God clearly outlined for us. Jesus had to resist the temptation of what looked good and to remember that God's plan is the only way to go.

When temptation comes, don't think about having to have satisfaction now. Think about the honor of God giving you the desires of your heart in His own time.

Wrong thinking cannot lead to right doing we must have right thinking if we want to engage in right doing.

A life of excessive indulgence is a life full of sin.

We must make Jesus not just savior, but also Lord of our lives.

Philippians 2:13
"For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."
God's word is our instructional manual for handling the tough situations that come our way. Study it.

Remember, you are a child of the king and He has made everything available to you to succeed in this fight with the enemy.
